About Us

In 1990, Alex Fleming founded DEMAND SIDE ENERGY Consultants Inc. (DSE), Canadian-based energy management firm specializing in commercial and industrial energy audits, energy action plans and greenhouse gas emission inventories and reporting. More than 240 projects have been successfully completed under his direction and the firm’s unique and successful approach to technology transfer and Demand Side Management programs is widely recognized.

Mr. Fleming offers over 18 years experience in commercial and industrial facility energy audits, energy use verification and engineering reviews for energy performance contracts. In addition to the site-based work, his DSM Program design development and delivery is broad, including significant work with twelve Canadian electric and gas utilities.

Mr. Fleming's work on DSM Program design, development and delivery is well regarded throughout both Canada and the United States. Some of his recent publications and presentations are regarded as being among the most thoroughly discussed. He has contributed widely to the development of Canadian and international utility efficiency programs, with significant expertise with high-efficiency motors.

George Andrich joined Demand Side Energy in 2003 as Vice President of Commercial Energy Services. Prior to joining DSE, George was the Energy Management Coordinator for the Notre Dame Campus of Red River College where he conducted a full-scale facility audit and delivered their 2004 Energy Action Plan that was awarded the GOLD level of quality by the Voluntary Challenge and Registry. George has penned two other nationally recognized award winning papers in his time with DSE and has participated in energy audits of over 100 buildings throughout the Province.

Prior to entering the field of energy management, George was a key member in the Research and Development team at an original equipment manufacturing firm of highway buses. George brings many years of project management experience to DSE and an appreciation of the operation of large manufacturing firms.

Prior to joining the DSE Team, Arash Ghorayshi was contracted to perform energy audits for the Winnipeg Police Service. During his time there, he was an engineer-in-training and was the Project Lead for conducting energy audits for all buildings owned and operated by The City of Winnipeg Police Services Division (WPS). His responsibilities included compiling energy data, reporting and presenting all of his findings as well as developing energy conservation measures and making recommendations. Arash’s experience, high degree of professionalism, project management experience and education make him a valuable asset to the DSE project team.

Arash is knowledgeable in current occupancy sensor technology, control systems and current lighting technologies. He has extensive experience in system monitoring for optimum performance and electrical system power quality.

Sarah-Beth Chernis joined the Demand Side Energy team in 2006 from her internship at Southface Energy Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked as an inspector for the EarthCraft House regional residential green building program and the Energy Star for Homes Program, and assisted with LEED coordination and documentation. She has experience managing project development and modelling residential energy profiles.

Sarah is knowledgeable about building envelope and residential HVAC performance. Her degree in Environmental Design in Achitecture provides a comfortable familiarity with building take-offs and with performing residential energy modelling.
