DSM Program Planning
In a model team effort, BC Hydro and DEMAND SIDE ENERGY gained international recognition for the Power Smart High Efficiency Motors Program the 1990s. By the end of that decade, DSE had provided program design, delivery and evaluation services to all Power Smart Utilities in Canada and several overseas projects. BC's market transformation effort saw the share of HE motor sales increase from a baseline level of 3% to more than 70% in three years.
The BC market at one time represented 30% of the North American Market for high efficiency motors. The program continued to lead all markets by enacting legislation in 1995 to ensure that high efficiency was the minimum allowable motor design - by law.
